Robert Steilberg
Software Development Engineer at Esri

About Me

I'm Rob, a software development engineer at the Esri Research & Development Center in Washington, D.C.

Currently, I am building new features for ArcGIS Hub, an Ember.js web application for connecting government with citizens through the principles of open data. I primarily work on the front end of the application and have focused on updating and building new features for Hub's Open Data site builder and editor. My past projects include an Android-based mobile application for recording immunization data in Roatán, Honduras, a Rails-based application for arranging pre-purchase used car inspections, and Java applications for building and playing Pokémon-style role-playing games.

My skills lie in web development (specifically Ember.js, CSS, and automated testing), agile development methodologies, and people management. My proficiency in coding is shown through my work; check my projects out on my GitHub profile.

I am a software development engineer at the Esri Research & Development Center in Washington, D.C. I work with the D.C. development team on ArcGIS Hub, an Ember.js web application for connecting government and citizens. I previously interned with Esri during the summer of 2017 and helped develop a tool for mating geospatial data with web mapping applications on the ArcGIS Online platform.

  • Clínica Esperanza

    August 2017 – July 2018

I volunteered at Clínica Esperanza, a low-cost/no cost clinic that provides medical care to the people of the island of Roatán. I worked as a project leader and developer for mVax, an Android application with a Firebase back end that stores immunization records. The goal of the project was to replace the clinic's existing paper-based immunization record system. I spent the two semesters prior to the summer of 2018 building and testing the app, finished the app while in Roatán, and ultimately deployed it for production use in the clinic with a long term goal of deploying it to other clinics on the island.
